2011 was an eventful year. I spent the 2010 Christmas skiing with great friends and my family. On our way to GYC in Baltimore, our family went and visited mom´s friend and her family in Princeton, NJ. We had a really good time and they showed us NYC in one afternoon, I had never been there before.
It was great to be able to go to GYC (extra bonus for working at Fountainview), this time I was both surprised and happy to see friends from Bogenhofen, Austria!
The holidays were soon over and I was headed back to FA (Fountainview Academy in the absolutely Beautiful British Columbia). I worked there last school year and I loved every minute of my time there.
In March, FA went to Kauai (one of the Hawaii islands) to film their newest production, Help in Daily Living. See the first episode here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OcotY5K7T0c&list=UUQH0M1QwYuanRoyOEg7M7eQ&index=3&feature=plcp
I came back to Iceland in the end of June. Thankfully I got a job for the summer, it was really great to be able to earn a little bit and get the experience. I got to work with some pretty amazing people!
We did a little bit of “local” traveling in the summer, Iceland isn´t very big but there´s SO MUCH to see. We visited good friends of ours in the northern part of Iceland and I thought their laundry looked very nice. By the way, this is how Icelanders dry their clothes, I´ve never been able to understand the over-use of dryers in North America. They consume so much electricity and they destroy your clothes. (Believe me; FA girls have heard me say this very often hehe.)
The scenery from inside the car was so pretty but we couldn´t stop every time I wanted to take a picture so I would just open the window and take a photo, I was surprised how many turned out ok.
School started late in August, I´m studying biochemistry at the University of Iceland but I´m also taking music lessons at the Reykjavík Conservatory (I think that´s what they call it in English). This semester was interesting, there was a lot of puzzling to do with my schedule and there was so much to study. I was taking Calculus, Chemistry + a ridiculous amount of lab hours, Genetics +lab and Biology + lab. The University is big and the classes are also big, there were about 350 people in my chemistry class. So, if there are any “Fountainviewers” reading this, enjoy being able to get to know your teachers.
I really love my music teachers, they are better than I hoped to expect (I didn´t know them when I applied). I just wish I had more time to practice and do my part. Next semester I have to make more time.
I won´t make any promises about this blog. This might be the first and the only one for this year, or it could be the first of many. We´ll see how it goes. I also have a blog in Icelandic but it´s public and it´s about health. I haven´t posted very often but I do every now and then.
